Honoring Excellence in Independent Publishing

ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year Awards were established to bring increased attention from librarians and booksellers to the literary achievements of independent publishers and their authors. Our awards process is unique because we ask a jury of our readers, librarians and booksellers, to select their top categories as well as choose the winning titles. Their decisions take into consideration editorial excellence, professional production, originality of the narrative, author credentials relative to the book and the value the book adds to its genre.

2007 Independent Publisher Book Awards

World’s largest international and regional book awards competition

Independent Publisher magazine has announced the winners of the 2007 Independent Publisher Book Awards and Soul-Full Eating has won under the category of Health/Medicine and Nutrition.

This year’s awards attracted 2,690 national entries came from all 50 U.S. states, 8 Canadian provinces, and 17 countries overseas. 1,510 independent authors and publishers submitted 2,100 books.

“What impresses us about this year’s entries was the passion and commitment of the authors for their topics,” said awards director Jim Barnes. “So many of these books deal with serious issues facing citizens of the world today: the threat of war, terrorism, health epidemics, climate change, and the loss of human rights. Independent authors and publishers are the conscience of our culture. It is the courage of these authors and visionary artists that the IPPY awards are designed to recognize.”

The 11th Annual Independent Publisher Book Award presentation ceremony, entitled Books Off- Broadway: A Celebration of Excellence in Independent Publishing was held on Friday, June 1st in conjunction with Book Expo America in New York City.

Congratulations to all participants for your excellent work!
